July 21 — Take No Prisoners by Cindy Gerard and Seducing Mr. Darcy by Gwyn Cready won 2009 RITA Awards from the Romance Writers of America. Other finalists include Now You Die by Roxanne St. Claire and Julia London's novella Snowy Night with a Highlander, which was published in Snowy Night with a Stranger.
Frank McCourt, 78, Author of Angela's Ashes
July 19 — Frank McCourt, the former New York City schoolteacher whose book about his childhood in Ireland won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award, passed away today.
